5-reasons-you-might-be-suffering-from-acne-breakouts

Most people suffer from some form of acne at one time or another. Teenagers and women seem to be prone to more breakouts than men. Many studies have been done to discover the root cause of why you may be dealing with breakouts.

Here are the top 5 reasons that your skin doesn’t look healthier:

Milk

Allergenic proteins and hormones could be a contributor to acne, according to several recent studies. The studies were typically done on teenagers, but they all concluded that those who drank two to three glasses of milk each day were 44% more likely to suffer from severe acne.

The type of milk didn’t matter (non-fat, homogenized, 1%, 2%) That’s because the cause of the acne starts with the farmer and the cow, not the milk processing.

Many farmers inject their cows with hormones in order for them to produce more milk. These hormones are believed to be responsible for blocking pores and causing an oily appearance to the skin. Other dairy products such as cheese, yogurt and chocolate milk can also cause acne.

Diet

Similar studies have been done regarding overall diet and acne breakouts. Although most doctors and nutritionists are quick to deny the connection, there does seem to be some correlation between your overall diet and the frequency and severity of acne breakouts.

Starchy foods with a high glycemic index, such as white flour, pasta, breads and potatoes seem to cause fairly severe acne breakouts. Oily foods such as French fries, candy, sugary sodas and some types of chocolate were also found to cause breakouts.

Many believe that diet and nutrition play a huge role in your overall health, including the look and feel of your skin. Eating a diet full of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains will go a long way to ensuring your skin looks healthy and that includes being acne-free.

Stress

When you constantly stress over things in your life, your hormones can fluctuate wildly. Too much stress can cause all kinds of health problems, including acne. The increase in the production of hormones creates a buildup of oil in your pores, and the result is pimples and acne. Stress can also cause weight gain, depression, illness and a host of other ailments.

Part of holistic healing is finding the cause of the stress and learning how to deal with it effectively. Knowing how to deal with stress has many benefits, other than clear skin. Be sure to get a good night’s sleep to help deal with stress as well.

Poor Skincare Regimen

You don’t need expensive creams or lotions to care for your skin. A gentle cleanser that you use twice a day is efficient, followed by a gentle moisturizer is usually sufficient. If you wear makeup, be sure and wash it off before going to bed, as this could cause an oily buildup as well. Regular soap and water can be used, but some people find that it is drying so you’ll have to find something that works for you, depending on your skin type.

Touching Your Face Too Much

Think about all the things you touch throughout the day. Your computer, your telephone, door handles, steering wheels, paper, etc. All of these things may contain bacteria and other substances.

When you touch your face, you are transferring all of those substances onto your face. This could cause a buildup, resulting in a rash or an acne breakout. Picking at your pimples is a habit that should be avoided at all costs, and could lead to acne scars or infection.

While every person is different, your acne could be caused by one or more of the reasons outlined above. Topical creams and lotions are not always effective, and prescription medication can be expensive and have ill side effects.

It is much better to find the root cause of the breakouts and deal with the problem; your acne breakouts are only symptoms telling you that something is wrong, or off balance. Holistic healing takes a look at the whole situation, from the inside out. You will be able to use several holistic methods to discover what is causing your acne, then work to bring your body back to its natural state.
